In Kerkhofblommen (for harmonica, oboe, clarinet, cello and tape) you can hear three generations of my family, with roots in rural West Flanders. To the tones of Guido Gezelles’s poem, recited in the local dialect, the piece reflects on the “circle of life”, the beauty of nature, religion and origins and at the same time transience and farewell. The piece was written for the Rhijnhof cemetery in Leiden, Netherlands.
