The NorthSouth Duo brings together music and stories from various corners of the world, woven into an adventurous mix of classical and contemporary compositions with influences from jazz and folk music. Despite their diverse backgrounds, Josie McClure (saxophone) and Kaat Vanhaverbeke (accordion) found each other while studying in the Netherlands. Josie grew up in faraway South Africa, Kaat comes from a small Belgian village. The duo explores themes of migration, identity and feeling at home in their music and, above all, aims to bring listeners together and connect them. As enthusiastic ambassadors of their instruments, they enrich the contemporary repertoire for accordion and saxophone by collaborating with young, promising composers.
